Milestones That Shaped Newborn Care

Two decades of relentless work — from policy halls to community health posts — delivering measurable impact across Nigeria.

01 Zonal Coordination & Provider Collaboration
Providers of neonatal care across Nigeria were unified through better collaboration frameworks. Regional coordinators were identified to co-ordinate NISONM activities at zonal level, creating a structured feedback loop to national leadership.
02 National Situation Analysis & Action Plan
Facilitated production of the Situation Analysis and Action Plan for Newborn Health in Nigeria (2009), launched by the then First Lady of the FRN — a landmark national policy document for IMNCH strategy.
03 Community-Linkage Programme
Launched a community-linkage initiative in Oghara, Ethiope West LGA, Delta State — connecting hospital-level neonatal care with grassroots maternal and newborn health workers in underserved communities.
04 Neonatal Jaundice Consensus Statement
Developed Nigeria's consensus statement on Newborn Jaundice and launched the Neonatal Jaundice Project — supporting CURHe capacity across multiple centres, reducing preventable neonatal deaths.
05 Multilingual Newborn Discharge Guide
Produced a Newborn Discharge Guide in English, Igbo, Hausa, and Yoruba — ensuring critical newborn care information reached families across Nigeria in their native languages.
